Academic Requirement

(1) Successful completion of Australian Year 10 or the Australian/overseas equivalent is mandatory. Students must be 18 years old and above.

English Requirement

• English language tests: Students must achieve an English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0 with no score lower than 5.0 for all courses.

• MIA Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN): The student is required to complete the MIA Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) test to ensure that the student has the ability to complete the course;

English Language Test Equivalency Table

*On 26 July 2023 the TOEFL internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) stopped offering English language tests for Australian visa purposes. A score for a TOEFL iBT test taken on or after 26 July 2023 will no longer satisfy the English language requirement for Student visa purposes. Only TOEFL iBT scores from tests taken on or before 25 July 2023 are accepted for Student visa purposes.

**From 12 February 2024, only results from the paper-based Cambridge English C1 Advanced test (previously known as Cambridge English: Advanced CAE) will be accepted for Australian visa and migration purposes. Test scores for both C1 Advanced paper-based and computer-based formats received prior to 12 February 2024 are also accepted.

• SHBBSSC001 – Incorporate knowledge of skin structure and functions into beauty therapy
• SHBBSSC002 – Incorporate knowledge of body structures and functions into beauty therapy
• SHBXCCS005 – Maintain health and wellbeing in a personal services setting
• SHBXCCS006 – Promote healthy nutritional options in a beauty therapy context
• SHBXCCS007 – Conduct salon financial transactions
• SHBXCCS008 – Provide salon services to clients
• SHBXIND003 – Comply with organisational requirements within a personal services environment
• SHBXWHS003 – Apply safe hygiene, health and work practices
• SIRXOSM002 – Maintain ethical and professional standards when using social media and online platforms
• SIRXSLS001 – Sell to the retail customer

• HLTIN005 – Maintain infection prevention for skin penetration treatments
• SHBBBOS009 – Provide aromatherapy massages
• SHBBBOS010* – Use reflexology relaxation techniques in beauty treatments
• SHBBSPA007* – Provide stone therapy massages
• SHBBHRS011* – Provide female intimate waxing services
• SHBBMUP010 – Design and apply make-up for photography
• SHBBMUP011 – Design and apply remedial camouflage make-up
• BSBESB304 – Determine resource requirements for new business ventures
• BSBESB401 – Research and develop business plans

On successful completion of the program, learners will be awarded with
SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy.

• 20 hours face to face delivery Per Week

Supervised Activities (Face-to-face, classroom)

The delivery is classroom-based with students completing in-class activities, presentations, discussion, and assessment tasks which include:

• practice exercises that reinforce the required practical skills.
• learning activities in the training environment in small groups and pairs.
• using textbooks, reference material and handouts to support learning.
• independent reading, preparation, and learning exercises.
• assessment tasks.

Learning styles are catered to by using whiteboard illustrations, multimedia presentations, oral instructions with handouts and interactive learning through role plays, case studies and supervising the practical implementation of skills.

Delivery had been timetabled to ensure students develop theoretical skills and knowledge and demonstrate practical skills in a class situation before commencing project assessment tasks.

The institute’s assessment methods include:

• Written assignments,
• Written and Oral questioning,
• Observation,
• Work-based projects.
• RPL

An application can be made for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) when the student believes that they have already attained the necessary skills and competencies elsewhere (work, other study etc.) or have an equivalent qualification or part of a qualification. MIA recognises the AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other RTOs and grants credit for these towards an award where applicable.

The application for RPL and/or Credit Transfer should be lodged prior to or immediately after the enrolment.

The following academic and employment pathways are available to students who complete this qualification:

• Students can enrol in Australian Universities to continue and pursue this career path. They can apply their knowledge and skills gained whilst in Australia to make a difference in their home country or seek to live and work anywhere in the world. In addition, international students who work in the hairdressing and beauty services field can formalise their work experience with a recognised Australian training certification, so they can tap into the jobs that are available in the industry.
• Job opportunities for international students for professional roles such as Senior Beauty Therapist, Beautician (small business).

In summary, the completion of this qualification can allow students to work in hairdressing and beauty services job roles for a diversity of employers across beauty related fields such as Senior Beauty Therapist, Beautician (Small Business).
